Every little thing deserves to be loved:

“ Above all send the bees love. Every little thing wants to be loved.” Page 92
“ I wanted to make her love me so she would keep me forever.” Page 94
“you are unlovable, Lily Owens. Unlovable. Who could love you? Who in this world could ever love you?... But you are not unlovable,… you are the most dear, lovable girl I know. Why Rosaleen loves you. May loved you. It doesn’t take a wizard to see Zach loves you. And everyone of the daughters loves you. And June despite her ways, loves you, too. Page 242
“did you know there are thirty-two names for love in one of the Eskimo languages?’ said August, “ and we just have one, we are so limited, you have to use the same word for loving Rosaleen as you do for loving a Coke with peanuts.” Page 140
“I marveled at how mixed up people got when it came to love…impossibility. I can tell you this much: the word is a great big log thrown on the fires of love. ” Page 133
“ let June love me. Let T. Ray love me… Take the meanness out of peoples hearts.
"Mostly, though, I saw the blaze of love and anguish that had come so often into her face. In the end it had burned her up." Page 199

The song "Sweeter Than Honey" (widget below) (Lyrics) talks about how love is better than honey. Love is all this song is talking about. In the Secret Life of Bees all Lily wants is to be loved she just wants to know that she is worth loving. Love is the most important thing to her and she finds this love in the pink house with the Boatwright sisters. It is here that she learns that every thing deserves to be loved, even her.

Home is where the Heart is, and Family is a bond not a biological relation

“And there they were. All these mothers. I have more mothers than any eight girls off the street. They are the moons shining over me.
“Did you know I love peanuts in my Coke, too? And blue is my favorite color?’ You know that saying, ‘birds of a feather flock together’? That’s how I felt.” Page 140
“She’s the mother of every bee in the hive, and they all depend on her to keep it going.” Page 149
“I thought about my old house, and I would miss it for a second or two before I remembered…One quick walk down memory lane and the old home feeling would blow right over. I would take the pink house any day.” Page 153
“I reached out and traced black Mary’s heart with my finger. I stood with the petals on my toes and pressed my palm flat and hard against her heart. I live in a hive of darkness, and you are my mother, I told her. You are the mother of thousands.
“She’s my husbands first cousin,” Rosaleen said. “Me and her kept up after my husband left me. August was the only one of his family who knew what a sorry jackass he was.” Page 198
“Our lady was covered in hands, every shade of brown and black, going in their own directions, but then the strangest thing started happening. Gradually all our hands fell into the same movement, sliding up and down the statue in long, slow strokes, then changing sideways motion, like a flock of birds that shifts direction in the sky at the same moment.” Page 270

The video linked to "Home" the actresses that played the main characters in the movie the secret life of bees are talking about the faith and family bond present between their characters in the story. It is this bond of faith that makes them family not the color of their skin. The song "We are Family" (widget below) (Lyrics) relays the same message that family can be anybody you have a strong enough bond with. Lily discovers this as she finds that all the black women she lives with are true family, while her father was never family to her.

There is a wall of emotions in everyone

"Wailing wall... It's a way for them to deal with their suffering... All those bits of paper you see out there stuck between stones are things May has written down." Page 98
"Placing my hands on the stones, all I wanted was not to ache so much. I wanted to let go of my feelings for a little while" Page 101
"A wall of glass broke in my chest, a wall I didn't even know was there." Page 238
"I remembered I had seen her in the afternoon, out by the wall, pulling a load of stones in the wagon. Building onto her wall." Page 182

The original wailing wall is in Jerusalem and used in the same way that May used her wailing wall. The video talks about how even to foreigners the wall is holy and is willing to hold their prayers. Although the wailing wall in this book was created by May and was mostly for her use, Lily found that it was a place she too could lay down her burden and her prayers could be heard.
